What am I up to in Guyana?

Guyana has a severe shortage of qualified maths and science teachers. This is because many of the qualified teachers emigrate and get jobs in the U.K or Canada.

This is where Project Trust volunteers help. During my gap year in Guyana I will be teaching science and maths in government run schools. These schools are based in the interior of the country, are in a poor state of disrepair and have very little in the way of facilities. I will be working with children aged 11-16 and helping them through their equivalent of the GCSE exams, the CXC’s.. Classes are around 30 pupils in size.

There will be the opportunity to set up secondary projects in and around the school, which are set up by myself, not Project Trust. Examples of secondary schools include helping out with a local scout group or starting up sports activities.
